The Hornack Residence included the renovation of a 1970’s eclectic mix of both architecture and materials. The Owners desired to keep the rustic, cottage theme of the original home site. Located along the banks of the Ararat River of Surry County, NC in a wooded setting it was a design requirement to disturb little of the existing site topography and vegetation. The renovation included expansion of the master bedroom with addition of a master bathroom, expansion and renovation of the living room area and expanded and renovated kitchen and dining room. The upper level included the addition of a bedroom and a second story deck that overlooks the River and the wooded land.
San Antonio, Texas
The Belt Residence project is a one story new construction of about 4,200 square feet on a five acre lot. This single-family residence consists of four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a large family room, home theatre, open kitchen with food preparation-island, and a two-car garage. The house is located on the flat terrain of San Antonio, Texas and the exterior design addresses the surrounding context with color and material selection.
Kensington Village Apartments
The rehabilitation for this 125 unit abandoned complex located in Winston-Salem, NC, consisted of renovating all units, the existing laundry, maintenance, and office buildings. A majority of the units were taken back to the framing, while all units received new plumbing, mechanical, electrical, appliances, and new finishes. Five percent of the units are handicap accessible. One building was demolished to make room for a new community center, containing the management office, community room, business center and exercise room, and swimming pool. The sixteen-buildings had roofs replaced, new siding, and complete window replacement. Site work included repairs, new entry gate, perimeter fencing, and utility work.
Three Gables at Shaftesbury
This project, located in Winston-Salem, NC, borrows elements from the bungalow style and is a single-family house of approximately 3,500 square feet. This residence includes one and a half stories, four bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a finished basement, and a detached garage with studio above. The master bedroom is located on the main level and the upper floor includes an additional family gathering room. The main level was also designed as an open plan.
This formal styled design residence located in Winston-Salem, NC, sits on a 12-acre lot looking over a five-acre lake and is approximately 12,000 square feet. Consisting of three stories, this residence includes five bedrooms, five and a half bathrooms, curved staircase in foyer, master bedroom on main level, full kitchen on both lower and main levels, game room on lower level, and a finished basement.
Bethesda Emergency Shelter
The Emergency Shelter consists of two one-story buildings to provide a respite for the less fortunate in the City of Winston-Salem, NC. One of the Emergency Shelters consists of 3,600 square feet and is a men’s shelter sleeping area accommodating 80 beds, bathrooms, shelter laundry facilities and office space for staff, completed in 2000. A second Emergency Shelter is approximately 3,300 square feet with separate sleeping areas to accommodate women and men without children. With duplicate support spaces of bathrooms, office for the shelter manager, and laundry; this shelter was completed in 2006.
